Motif Exotikos – Revue annuelle

Uplifting 901 Refugee Children
through Education in Malawi

Motif Exotikos, a Canadian non-profit committed to cultural dignity and community-driven education, is leading a bold initiative to support 901 refugee children in the Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi.

Our mission? Deliver integrated, age-appropriate learning materials that help children reclaim their right to learn, express, and thrive, even amidst displacement.

Developed around the World of the Queen Owl curriculum, this project promotes creativity, foundational learning, and early entrepreneurship—nurturing hope where it’s most needed.

In Dzaleka, many children live without the most basic school essentials: no books, desks, or writing tools. Motif Exotikos’ approach tackles this with adaptive workbooks, distributed directly in collaboration with camp educators and our local partner, Mr. Ngoy Odilon Ilunga.

Delivering School Materials
to 901 Children

In the heart of the Dzaleka Refugee Camp, over 900 children lack access to even the most basic educational resources such as notebooks, pencils, or structured learning tools. Motif Exotikos is committed to changing that. Through this initiative, we are distributing culturally adapted, age-appropriate workbooks and supplies tailored to their needs. These materials are not just tools; they are lifelines, restoring a sense of normalcy and sparking a renewed love for learning.

Supporting Mental Well-being Through Creative Expression

For displaced children, trauma runs deep. Our curriculum, World of the Queen Owl, incorporates storytelling, art, and reflective journaling designed specifically for healing. By giving children a safe space to draw, write, and imagine, we empower them to express emotions and rebuild confidence. Education becomes a form of therapy that restores hope, voice, and self-worth.

Aligned with SDG 4: Quality Education and UNHCR Goals

This project directly supports UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by ensuring inclusive, equitable learning for refugee children. It also aligns with UNHCR’s Education 2030 strategy which calls for targeted, creative solutions for long-term displacement. Our localized, low-resource-ready approach means we are not just delivering lessons; we are helping build a framework for sustainable, inclusive education in crisis zones.
